Workshop on ‘ICT in ELT’ at Bangalore

One day workshop on ‘ICT in ELT’ was conducted for principles and senior teachers of ICSE and CBSE schools of Bangalore at Infantry Hotel, Bangalore on 21st September, 2012.

Dr. K J Vargheese, Associate Professor, Christ College, Irinjalakuda, was the resource person for the workshop.

ICT has become an indispensable part in our daily life as technology has brought in several changes. In the recent years English language teaching has undergone far-reaching changes with the advent of latest techniques and methodologies Dr. Vargheese in the workshop explained the importance to understand and adopt the various techniques and methods adopted by language teachers in classrooms. He said, the language teachers should keep themselves abreast of the current trends to create inquisitiveness among the student community and prepare them for the challenges of the future.

According to Dr. Vargheese, the conventional classroom teaching needs to be replaced by various technology and other gadgets. ICT is of immense use in teaching and learning of English language that caters to students from all walks of life. It provides teachers and students lots of creative and practical ideas to create a learner-friendly environment. “ICT can be used to provide motivational activities for students, stimulus to creative learning, more opportunities for student teacher interaction, and also for easy access to information”, elucidated Dr. Vargheese.

During the talk, he pointed out various ICT resources including digital language lab, projectors, mobile technology and the role of these tools in language learning. He asked the language teachers present at the workshop to apply latest technologies in language teaching to make learning more enjoyable and interesting with audio visual aids.
